Our speaker at the November meeting was our Secretary Kevin Rowan-Drewitt who gave a talk entitiled 'Making predictions using the Equinox and Solstice chart' - something that Kevin had been doing for many years in his role as editor of the Club's ICARUS newsletter.Kevin began by telling the story of how the newsletter team was formed, its early days and how the 'Rising Signs' column in which the equinox/solstice chart predictions appeared evolved from a few lines on page 7 to dominate the front page. The predictions, which were for the next 3 months ahead, were originally done by the first editor James Roylance and when Kevin took over the role he had no experience of Mundane Astrology. Eventually he learned the technique and began to make predictions and he went on to explain how he did them.
Kevin then went through each of the planets and houses in turn explaining their Mundane meaning e.g. The Sun was the Queen and PM, whilst the 10th house was the government. He then informed members of how to interpret the chart using those meanings, the aspects between planets, the sign the Moon was in, chart shapings, aspect patterns, angular planets, traditional factors etc. He also showed how he used the Rheinhold Ebertin's Combination of Stellar Influences book to interpret planets on midpoints and Lynda Hill's book on the Sabian Sybols to get an interpretation for the ascendant and midheaven. Next Kevin went back over the years showing various equinox/solstice charts and gave examples of the predictions he made for them, with varying degrees of success and failure that delighted and amused the many members present. Finally Kevin put up the chart of the upcoming Winter Solstice and invited members to have a go at making some predictions about the first 3 months of 2010. Many members put forward their ideas and it rounded off a very good night. Kevin was thanked by Chairperson Barbara Giles.
